CAREGIVER, LOVE THYSELF, BY HELPING YOURSELF AND YOUR CHARGE WITH A SMART HEADPHONE

Many people are caregivers in different ways and at different times of the day.

Many have the duty and obligation and yes, the love for caregiving; none of which precludes the simple fact that all jobs, all duties can wear thin.  As people, our hearts can grow heavy and our thoughts can be full; our minds can be so preoccupied that our nerves are short. Sometimes, just the tiniest sounds may trigger a shortness in temper.

As caregivers knowing that your charge is comfortable and not-for-want is a daily, hourly goal.  Your charge may be a family member and their comfort becomes more than a goal, it becomes a labor of love.

Often although we care daily, our minds wander to a time when “the family” was the core of the house.  When life was lived in the four walls filled with laughter and Howdy-Doodie, The Sonny and Cher Show, and now when the TV is on, your charge may have a blank stare simply because in order to hear the program they would have to turn up the volume, and when they can hear it is far too loud for the every else in the room.  The sadness and frustration that overcomes one’s heart knowing that the simple ability to hear has impaired to such a degree that what used to be becomes a sadness and what is today is more sadness.  It’s the simple things we do as a person, as a family as a group of merely being together that enables us to find simple joys in our days, in our hours.

If, as a caregiver, you could turn back time, a time of enjoyment, a time of simple joys, wouldn’t you?  Of course.  To have the ability to see your family together, as if you were 10 again, watching television, enjoying a show, does exist. Just like being able to turn on a light before you enter a room exists, or calling out to voice robot to ask a question exists.
